Hi,
How can I add Swap to my LePotato board?
Thank you.
Simplest way would be to add another storage device and create a swap partition on it. Le Potato supports SD, eMMC, and (with some caveats) USB connected devices.
If you can’t, or don’t wish, to add a device, you’ll have to repartition one that you currently have to make room for the swap. Specifics will depend on what OS you have installed.
Over to you, arnauld.
No need to add another storage device or repartition anything these days, just add a swapfile. Give this HOW-TO a look: How to Create a Linux Swap File | phoenixNAP KB
Thank you. I will try adding a USB stick.
Thank you, I will try this first.
Hello. In general USB sticks are not recommended for using for Swap in the long term. Swap needs a lot of read and write and it’ll quickly kill the USB stick. You can simply create another partition on the uSD and use as swap.
Also keep in mind that if you need a lot of more RAM/Memory, adding swap doesn’t help much. It will work. But it’ll be really slow since speed of a uSD, even the expensive and robust ones like SanDisk Extreme are far below speed of RAM.
Last but not the least, if you are using a cheap and low quality uSD, the chances are that you’ll kill the memory card quickly just like a USB stick.
