No, not in general it doesn’t. I have booted a desktop (Bookworm) from an SSD in an enclosure attached through a hub. IIRC I was able to boot Sweet Potato likewise (that might have required the external power supply for the hub?). So IME it’s only the on-board hub on your 905 boards that has this problem.
