Even if the only two things I have connected are the HDD through USB type A and an Ethernet cable? I handle Le Potato through SSH, so no monitor, no mouse, no keyboard.
This is the power supply I have: GenBasic 5V 3A USB Type-C Power Supply with MicroUSB Adapter with LED – LoveRPi
- 3.5 inch hard drives can use upwards of 24W (12V2A) on startup.
- 2.5 inch hard drives can use upwards of 10W (5V2A) on startup.
- SSDs can use upwards of 12W (3.3V4A).
Le Potato uses 1W to 5W typically. You’re talking about a peripheral that uses an order or two magnitude higher power than the SBC.

I see, thank you for explaining it in that way!
I will go for a power hub then.
