Unable to install software

I recently purchased an Alta AML-A311D-CC and a GenBasic 64gb MicroSD with a Debian image already flashed. I paired the board with a Uperfect Raspberry Pi 10.1 inch touchscreen monitor. I am able to load Debian, but if I try to install anything I am given a bunch of “failed to fetch” messages and finally a message that says “unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with —fix-missing”. If I run either of these commands and then try to install again I still receive the same error messages. I have tried other commands to try and fix this as well, but no success. I would greatly appreciate any ideas that might solve this. I am very new to this and highly ignorant, I very well may be making a stupid mistake.
