Having a power supply that is compliant with USB specifications is critical to the operation of Libre Computer boards. We have supported many customers that experienced boot and operating issues that were the result of inadequate power. We are providing official recommendation for a power supply that we worked alongside our partners to design. You are free to use any power supply that provides proper power matching the following criteria:
- > 5.0V at any current between 0A and 3A at the MicroUSB/USB Type-C plug
- < 5.5V at any current between 0A and 3A at the MicroUSB/USB Type-C plug
- Integrated cable with sufficient wire gauge to minimize voltage drop
- Well designed snubber circuit
- Sufficient capacitance to minimize voltage drop during load spike
- Low EMI to minimize interference with board components
- Accepts EMI without damage or misbehaving
- Current limiting shutdown for safety
- Temperature limiting shutdown for safety
These are minimum recommended power supply requirements. With these basic requirements in mind, we worked with our supply chain to create the GenBasic 5V 3A Power Adapter for Libre Computer. This power supply is designed to meet the previous criteria as well as the following:
- > 5.0V at any current between 0A and 3A at the MicroUSB/USB Type-C plug
- < 5.3V at any current between 0A and 3A at the MicroUSB/USB Type-C plug
- Integrated Power Switch
- Integrated Power Indicator LED
- Integrated Clippable USB Type-C to MicroUSB Adapter
